Mulch is any type of material that is spread or laid over the surface of the soil as a covering. It is used to retain moisture in the soil, suppress weeds, keep the soil cool, and make the garden bed look more attractive. LA Sanitation creates high-quality mulch from the green waste collected from homes across the City. This mulch is available free to residents! You can pick it up yourself at one of eleven locations around the City.

	The Free Mulch Giveaway program is available to all resi-dents of the City of Los Angeles. LA Sanitation (LASAN) is “Closing The Loop” by providing free quality mulch in 10 different locations throughout the City that are open to the public.  Download the flyer here. Instructions: Bring your own shovel, bag or pick-up; load up your own containers and take as much as you need.
